  • ·         while the Welfare Department has prepared evacuation centres to house potential victims.
  • ·         The Government also is asking people not to ignore orders to evacuate.

  • ·         Many fishermen rely on going to sea daily in order to support their families.
  • ·         But they should feel encouraged not to take those risks, as the Government has promised that flood-hit farmers in Pendang and fisherman will get aid soon.

Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom said the aid would be given once the ministry had identified the farmers and fishermen and recorded their losses.
The past weekend, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak visited Kuantan, which was also hard hit by heavy flooding, and distributed the first financial aid of RM500 each to 686 families affected by flood.

  • ·         When it comes to a storm – in these days of global warming – it's recommended that people err on the side of safety.
  • ·        A preliminary survey on 800 residents was carried out in the State recently. It was found that when a major flood occurred on average 74.8 percent said that they were unable to go to work while the children were denied from school.
  • ·          Most of the surveyed residents were unfavorable towards the idea of relocation in response to recurrent flood.
  • ·         Instead, they preferred to stay on the land where are staying now, and wait for the flood to come at the end of the year during Monsoon season.
  • ·         From the total residents surveyed, an average of 65.7 percent believed that improving existing houses and renovating it from wood to brick was seen as the best solution in their struggle to avoid hazards posed by flood
